Could somebody recommend a supplier of etched brass name and number plates in 4mm please? I presume that Jackson Evans are no longer in operation? A web address would particularly helpful.

Would they be steam era plates ?
Graham Shaw of Shawplan produces some very nice stuff. Try
Phil
As do 247 developments for steam
or
Shawplan, fox for diesel. I think Jackson Evans has just been taken over by shawplan too?

I've tried Modelmaster, who quote(d) up to 18 months (which I was prepared to accept). Two years later - "Oh, sorry, we've lost the record of your order."
247 Developments are good quality with (IIRC) a three month wait, but a quote from the lady at the exhibition stand "We don't have time to answer emails" makes me wonder if they also have time to deal with custom plates. Personally though, I would still place an order with them - I think they just prefer telephone contact which interrupts their busy schedule even more!Shawplan is the other one, but apart from seeing that the quality appears to be very good I've had no experience of dealing with them.
I think though that whoever you choose you will need to accept a fairly long delivery time - they need to wait until they've got a full sheet ready before sending it to the etchers. Another alternative is to have a go at etching them yourself - see my website!

You say the art work was printed in a Inkjet. Was this to be used as contact on to film or did you print on to overhead gels ?

I have had custom plates from 247, Earl is a pretty good supplier, but as you say, there can be a month or more lead time on plates not already available.

Have you tried Fox Transfers?

This was printed onto overhead transparency film, but obviously the type intended for inkjet printers. It is also printed so that the ink is against the brass, which means mirroring one side (assuming it is drawn so that both layers are viewed from the top)
In a couple of months or so that web page will be updated with far more detail, after my article is printed in Scalefour News. I haven't tried nameplates yet, but I've just printed artwork for another project, with some trial nameplates in the margins - just to see what sort of font sizes I can use.
I had no luck at all via email with 247 or CGW. I finally got an email reply from CGW by calling them and leaving a message on the answering machine. Its a little sneaky trying to work out a good time to call from Australia!

Thank you for your reply and Infomation. Trev
Thankyou to everyone who replied. I had tried Fox but they had gaps in their range and that awful website!!
Modelmaster however seems very good and I will be using them.
Thankyou once again

CGW - I forgot about them! I know it's been discussed before, but I wish suppliers who publicised an email address would actually use it. Your location is a very good case of why suppliers shouldn't ignore email.
Try Guilplates - details are on Supplier.txt via Scalefour website - they do both 4mm and 7mm quickly - and they answer emails!
I agree that 247 Developments are very good. I always use them. The delay for custom made plates can vary but they DO eventually arrive (not like some "lost the order" excuses from other suppliers!).
