Headlamp question

I'm afraid this will be a guess! You'll probably need to base your engines on the ones from photographs! The type you are meaning are the High Intensity type I am assuming.

The first new locos to be built with integrated high intensity lights were the Class 56's & 87's in the 1970's IIRC. The Class 50 also recieved a similar design - possibly in the 70's too?

The 37's & 47's are a difficult one, the 37/4,37/5's etc recieved them when they were refurbished, as did the 47/4's & 47/7's as for the rest who knows!!!

I had suspected as much from studying the prototype. I think I'll just pick a loco from the correct era I'm aiming at and copy that, as you suggested.

Reading this months MR, The Class 37/7 and 37/9's had them fitted on the HGR (Heavy general repair) when then were converted from their old specs. So this took place between 1986 and 1989....Can't comment on other classes, but guess it will be about the same time period....

As stated, choose your loco and pick a year... Or is it pick a year then the loco????? :-)
