Very much so! An Operating System running on top of another Operating System with an "inetersing" application layer on top - talking to a not too well defined hardware spec via an ill-defined comms spec.

Supposedly all sorted out for TestBook III though! (Cough....)

I'm not arguing about CANs capabilities, just it's suitability for mobile decoders. As a layout control bus it is second to none IMHO.

NO, you can't even get the basic facts correct! CAN was developed by Robert Bosch in the 1980s for automotive applications, the other uses, including industrial, came later. There are now a variety of physical interfaces for CAN and a variety of message protocols that are used on top of the CAN arbitration acheme.
