Die-Cast to nominal 1;43 with 3 MK 1... $300 US retail... a bargain really...
A Hall class... what could the intrepid basher make it into... a saint, a 4-4-2... a 2-8-0...
What else?

Difficult. It's die cast so butchering the body is hard. The Saint or
4-4-2 have larger driving wheels so it would need larger splashers. The boiler would be pitched wrongly as well - compare photos of the rebuilt Saint Martin with production Halls. The carriages are all wrong. A compartment short, too low and too narrow.
But for what it is the engine is good value. Needs re-wheeling as it is to 3-rail tinplate standards.
John Burrow in San Diego has done a conversion using Slater's wheels using brass tube to make up the difference in the axle diameter. Comparing it with a kit-built Hall the dimensions are right for 7mm scale.
It's probably 1:48 (US O scale), or even smaller (Lionel "O gauge" may be 1:64 running on 32mm tubular track.)
Could be. The engine is right for 7mm, and pretty good given the limitations of a die-cast 3 rail model to coarse scale tinplate standards..
It is Olton Hall as running Hogwarts specials today, with a headlamp above the centre of the buffer beam. Also thick cab sides due to the die casting. The leading spashers are moulded to the boiler which is possibly the worst feature.
The engine and tender are correct size. The carriages aren't.
Assuming it's Lionel undersize, perhaps it would make a Prarie tank.
But wouldn't the coaches look undersiz... never mind. =8^)
This thing is 3 rail rail AC with a sort of pseudo DCC operation for the 'bells and whistles' isn't it? sounds like a nightmare to convert to 'normal' 12V DC!
Someone on the 7mm Yahoo Group has just done one - took a couple of hours apparently with Slaters wheels. The coaches and track are up for grabs at cost of postage!

Lionel have in the past offered "models" in both 3 rail AC and 2 rail DC. Given that new products (not the "traditional" reproductions) are now fitted with 12v DC motors the variant isn't difficult to include in their range. (I'm not promising :-)
