Possible new UK North American Outline Model Shop

We are SBX Model Shop in Ipswich. We currently offer a wide range of scale models covering most topics. We also import a good range specialist detailing parts such as turned gun barrels, resin add-ons etc. We operate a full shop but do most of our business through mail order. One of the special features that we offer is free delivery - and we offer this throughout the world as much as we can.

We are looking to expand our range of offerings. We already have two good model railway shops in Ipswich so we have no real interest in competing with them but both of them mainly specialise in UK outline.

I have been a railway modeller for over 40 years and throughout that time have specilised in North American outline. It would therefore seem to be sensible if we were to offer a service in that area. We are currently negotiating an account with Walthers and the US wholesaler of Athearn and intend to expand our range as far as we can.

What I would like to know is the groups reaction to the plans. What do you think? Is another shop needed, wanted, not wanted etc. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

One of the big questions is whether to discount or to maintain the free delivery option.

Thoughts?

I'm currently in the planning stage to build a US outline HO layout. Because I live in Somerset and have to go to Maidenhead occasionally I have tended to buy from Model Junction in Slough (I'm already running a tiny layout and testing DCC). Generally speaking I prefer the Model Junction website to any of the others I've found which offer US HO. My main objection to their website is that their naming convention for railroad names is inconsistent so if, for example, you want Rock Island you need to search more than once. Also, you can't simply search for HO or N. The Caboose Hobbies (Denver) search comes close my my ideal.

Online stock availability is a must.

You don't fancy moving West do you?!
