the 2 offerings compatible in terms of track, power etc? (no 3rd or 4th rail I hope). After all, Underground and National Rail share track in real life at some places, don't they. Shame they can do it for younger kids, but not much RTR underground stuff for us big uns.

That's the first trakmat from Bachmann if I'm not mistaken, in the UK at least? 8'x4' sounds a bit big for the age group it's aimed at. The trakmat also suggests the release of a turntable from Bachman in the near future.

The one close-up pic I've seen appears to feature either ready-ballasted two-rail or standard two-rail on a foam underlay.

Looks like 16.5mm track to me. Any real hobby shops near you? If so, go take a look see.

Think they're using E-Zmate track which is generally sold in the USA and is not directly compatible with Hornby or Peco - I'm assuming this from looking at the picture on the box lid of the Circle Line sets which arrived in stock this week. There doesn't appear to be any unit end couplings (in the same way that working couplings are absent from the Voyager and some of the Hornby units) so coupling compatibility is not an issue.

It appears to be 12v DC 2-rail operation.

That may be so for the London Underground, but they do not use US-style track bumpers, but British-style buffer stops.

Man alive! If I saw something like that emerging from an underground tunnel I think I'd run a mile.... hideous!

I hadn't noticed any buffer stops of either style on the Circle Line.... perhaps that's why they call it the Circle Line!

Sorry, Jerry, I was implying that the track comes from the US.
