I would like to enable mobile welding by using my truck's engine.
Assuming it's doable, how should all this be implemented ?
What caveats are to be observed ?
What's the simplest way to rectify the alternator current to properly and safely....DC weld ?
What cables, rod holder, etc. are recommended ?
What else do I need ?
What should all this cost and where can I get said parts and pieces ?

Is this for emergancy repairs (Jeep trail use or farm field repair to get it back to the barn), occasional use for building things, or serious work like installing assemblies once a week?

You can get alternator welders, which are good to about 100 or so amps. There's another one.. can't remember the name that is designed to be a welder from the get go, and mounts like an alternator. I always wondered if one could hook up a welder generator to a PTO and use that.... Seems like a better use of the available horsepower rather than using belt driven devices.
I think it is called Premiere Power Welder.
