TIG welder choice

We are in the market for a TIG welder. We are hoping to be able to weld at least 1/4" aluminum. We have been looking at the Thermal Arc

185TSW but have the feeling that it will be difficult to use with anything over 1/8". Any experiences with this? We are now considering something larger such as the next step up Thermal Arc or the Miller Dynasty DX 300. I noticed that the non-inverter TIGs are less expensive. Do the inverter based TIGs perform better or is it just a combination of small size and less current draw that makes them so attractive? Current draw isn't a real issue for us. Any suggestions?

For aluminum an Invert TIG will be superior. Whether teh weld is better enough to justify the cash, that you will have to decide.

If you can feed it the 80-90 amps of 220v single phase it wants, a Syncrowave 250DX is a wonderful machine. I have had mine for 1.5 years and love it dearly.

At $1900 base price for the machine, and about $500 for everything else, it is a good deal.

If you have the cash to invest go for the Dynasty 300DX.
