Tombstone

My neighbor just hailed me as I got home, and gave me a Lincoln 225 Tombstone his SIL had given him.

I have welded a bunch with DC, but am not sure what to use on AC. My welding book is packed up.

I know 7018 will run on AC.

What would be the best rods to buy for AC? Say, the top three?

6011, 6013, 7014 all in 1/8" diameter.

6011 penetrates well, freezes fast and is more tolerant of contamination. Slag is harder to remove; use an angle grinder with a wire brush.

It will require a special 7018 AC rod.

Deep and dirty - 6011

I use mostly 7014 and 7018AC. 7014 I've used in anything from 1/16 to

5/32, but I mostly use 3/32 and 1/8. 7018AC I've just used in 3/32. Most of what I've been welding has been A36 and mystery metal between 1/8 and 1/4" thick.

I had a non-critical cast iron repair, and was amazed at how well Ni99 rod worked, welds nicely at a very low amperage...
