radio issues

I'm new here and just bought a 4 stroke rc plane (.90) It has a Futaba Conquest FP-T4NBF Transmitter. I know the transmitter and plane are getting power but I can't get any of the controls to work. The reciever is a little cramped and above a glued sction so I am hoping to avoid taking it out. I am wondering if you guys might know what it could be or things to check out.



Did you buy this plane and radio used? If so, did the seller give you the correct transmitter. You might check the make sure the transmitter and receiver are on the same channel. Also double check that the batteries in the tx and rx are fully charged. Check all connections in the plane. Are they connected?

There's been a great solar flare, this problem should clear up by it self soon. Also consider your plane may have been hit by a strange quark nugget(search this group) Seriuosly now, check everything, make sure your on the same frequency(TX & RX) make sure the crystals are in. Check switch harness, battery, take it all apart as far as you can.

How do you know the receiver/servos are getting power? Usually the indication for that is that you get movement etc when you wiggle the TX sticks

How old is the radio system? NiCds do have a shelf life, and sometimes old batteries won't charge. Do the servos do a little twitch when you turn the receiver on? If they don't, you're not getting power. Make sure your switch harness is properly connected to the receiver and battery and the switch is good. I know you don't want to do it, but I'd remove the receiver and check it out. Find a buddy you can swap radio components with, and start swapping stuff one piece at a time until you find the culprit.

I finally gave in and managed to pull my reciever out. I haven't actually got the crystal itself out(nop easy way to get out) but the sticker on the reciever lists a dfferent frequency (72.590) than the controller (72.910). I assume the sticker is accurate and am going to buy a new crystal for my controller. The odd thing is that the reciever is a 7 channel yet the controller is a four channel and the plane only has four servos. Thanks 4 the help.

Sounds like they don't match, but I suggest pulling the receiver crystal out first to make sure the label is correct. You really ought to replace the receiver crystal rather than the transmitter crystal.

What model number is the receiver? It's also possible that it's not compatible with your transmitter. (with the model number, we can tell you.)

That's not uncommon at all.

Look for the actual Channel Number. It would be a simple two digit number (like 35). But it is already starting to sound like they don't match.

72.590 = channel 40

72.910 = channel 56

There's no problem having a TX with more channels than the RX or vice-versa. The channels that are active should function properly (channels 1-4).

I don't suppose you could find something even _more_ trivial to complain about?

It controls, so calling it a controller isn't wrong, though it's certainly not the usual term. The guy is obviously new to the hobby ... cut him some slack.

Well i had an encoder board crap out on mine one time, and the thing was transmitting OK but not controllin' nothin'. Bill(oc)

Frank Schwartz calm down. I the first post I only used transmitter, but in the second controller slipped in( my mind was on making sure the frequencies I listed were right. I am new to planes though. Anyway I tried using a 72.910 in the reciever but nothing worked. The servos do a little twitch when I turn the reciever on and the battery tester says the plane battery has power. The TRANSMITTER's(happy?) power meter is at 100 so I am again lost. Do I need to get a
