RC Universe Ruined!

I just tried to check my ads on RCU. They're all gone! And now...they want some sort of fee to post for sale items. Bull Hockey! They're making so much money from the commercial advertisers it is an insult to charge the modellers to list their items. THE ADS IS WHAT BROUGHT MODELLERS to the site so the advertisers could benefit. If I was paying to advertise on the new RCU I would cancel it immediately because obviously the site has gone to hell and their usage is gonna go down the toilet. If you're gonna have to pay, might as well use ebay!

Why do some people just insist on F*cking up a good thing?!!!

I haven`t made up my mind yet but I know I stopped going to RCO a long time ago. Guess we`ll have to go back to the newsgroups to post free ads. I just hate it when they "improve" a good thing. I have enough things in my life that change .. I don`t need the simple things to become not simple or fun anymore.

I think it's called "Greed!"

I disagree with your thinking. I think a very tiny portion of RCU's attraction is classified ads.

I think the big attraction is the 50,000 members that are sharing information. Several manufacturers have their own sub-forums to support their products. Questions about anything are answered fast. For the user that just wants to take part in discussions, the site is still free.

It appears they want to make money for a change. Not only are they going to charge for classifieds, but as far as RC goes, they are trying to challenge E-bay in the auction arena, with lower fees.

I am not sure whether the "new" RCU will be liked or disliked after the first few days. If I were new, I sure would avoid it for a day or two, until the bugs get worked out of the software. I have no idea if I will like the site and stay with it, or hate it and leave, but, my decision will have nothing to do with the small number of classifieds (relative to the 50000 membership).

I think there are a lot more people looking at the RC ads on ebay than there will be on RCUniverse. So I probably will continue to post my stuff there.

Havent been there yet today but the few times I have looked at ads, it seemed that anything interesting was already sold. Havent looked at an ad there in months for that reason. If thats the only beef with the new format, its not going to adversely affect me at all. I never went to RCU for the ads anyway.

Jeboba:

Gotta disagree with you on the (The ads is what brought the modellers to the site. )

That's exactly what kept me away from r/c airport and will probably drive me away from r/c universe.

The helpful information shared by fellow modellers IS WHAT GOT ME TO R/C UNIVERSE. That and a lot less bickering.

If I gotta dodge adverts I'm gone, I'M smart enough to google up most anything I'm looking for and don't need the extra stuffed in my face to make someone a buck.

Kind of a shame really Tomb

I am not going to argue add's or greed or making a profit it's just that RCU won't be my daily destination anymore I just don't like the site at all. Greg

RC Universe was a great place to go,no matter what you were looking for. Questions answered,Buy,Sell,Everything rite there. But Yep,it's gone to pot and I won't be back.

I used to spend my days in this NG before moving on to RCU,but so many silly asses thought that Long threads on Ben Laden,Sadam, the French, the Russians, and a bunch of silly crap that had nothing to do with R/C was cute. Probably won't be back but did want to look in here for the comments on the new RCU.

Later..

now that I can't post to RCU, or whatever it is called, I'll probably quit going there... They want too much personal info that my firewall won't let out. Basically, RCU Says I have to disable my firewall and trust them. Fat chance.

I just logged in and looked at the kit building and ARF forums. Navigation seems just as easy as the old version.

That's the site I go to. It is mostly inhabited by electric flyers however they do have forums dedicated to IC as well.

Having the same problem. I cannot post without turning off all my protection. Only while on RCU was I ever getting alerts of attempted Trojan Horses from all places in Far East, Germany, England , LA, SFO, SEA and a couple others.

Im not a smart computer type, and I think RCU has just done me in. Maybe I'll get to building again.

I agree, it basicly sux. I've had to sign up again every time I get on (three times), and I keep getting Java Script Errors that kick me off the website.

Hopefully things will get better in a few weeks.

Go to RCGROUPS.com, when I saw the first try of the new RCU I hated it. I emailed RCGROUPS and they immediately set up a warbird forum. The format is the same as the old RCU. It is a generic forum setup just like RCU was. The classifieds are free and set up the same way. Only registration needed is regular login info to get user name. They are as helpful as Marc was when he started RCU. I hope we can get a few good years before they do the same but perhaps they will learn a lesson from RCU and remember who makes it successful. I was sure Marc learned that when RCO etc tried to change for the worse and he became the number one over a couple of weeks. RCGROUPS has always had the most active electric air groups and we will see if fuel groups can catch up. I detest the new RCU auction setup and they can kiss my grits if they think they are getting my Credit card info to post and buy from another user. It is not the small upgrade fee which I would pay, it is the complete poorly thought out redesign of the site. One last thing, for the first time I have seen RCGROUPS.com had more users all last night than RCU and that was the first night. Good Luck Paul

RC Universe will go the way of RC Online if someone comes up with another site. There were problems with RC Universe all along. Marc is a bit of a R/C Nazi in that he doesn't want to see any postings of any models that doesn't have a radio in it, doesn't want to talk about full scale, won't allow posts criticising RC Universe, etc. Now I have to give out private info before I can configure the site, its slower, ads are no longer free, etc. I think I will go elsewere. Some recent polls there showed about 1/3 of the users may agree with me, good opportunity for a new site.

Funny that's one of the things I like about the NG. Don't have to read the threads you don't like. Would be nice to have a site that allows discussion of anything, but has a place for off topic discussion.

They have been working out the bugs on a test site for a couple of months. The problems you have now are not bugs, but a change in policy.

There is and has been even before RCU was conceived.
