An operation to recover a model plane from a cliff face, which involved 14 emergency service workers, has been defended by coastguards.

Personally, I agree with their reasoning -- I've seen kids do some crazy things just to get something like a cheap kite out of a tree.

Though if it's only two feet long (is that the wing span?) it may not have been an R/C plane at all ...

The reasoning might also be that it was an ideal training opportunity (although the article doesn't mention this). I'm sure that new team members need to be trained and old members have their skills exercised in other than life-or-death situations.

The report I read said just that!!!!

I only read the link to the BBC report.

If they just wanted to keep kids from trying to get it why didn't they just knock it down with a pallet gun. It's 2 feet long.

A pallet gun eh? That'll be a slightly bigger bore than .22 then!! ;)

Jeeze, think of the recoil on one of those.
