Any one used the Motomatic II servo driver?

I'm trying to set it up with limit switches as the wiring diagram shows in the manual, but it's not responding for the trigger of the switches to put the motor in revers. I hooked up every thing according to the manual. Any one have any idea why? Thx, Julius

If you are using the same drawing I looked at all it would do is stop when you make the limit switch,

At a quick glance it looks like you need to be able to use a external velocity reference and a way to change the polarity of that signal to reverse the motor.

I will look at it when I have a few minutes, 'Im sure someone has the answer here on the tip of their tounge.

You need to look at the cw/ccw remote vcs control , you maybe need to use the limit switches to switch a relay that determines the polarity of the vcs at pin #1.........sumpin like that

Motomatic does that. It has to be set CW/CCW mode and the limit switches should give the signals to revers. I can revers or forward the motor manually, but it not respond to the limit switches. I'm not sure if the INH or the COM has to be wired in to some how.

I looked that over again and the the clamp (fac,rac,inh) are as described, have nothing to do with reversing the motor.

The key word is "Allows" operation in the opposite direction, and does not mean the motor will reverse automatically.

Unless I'm reading this wrong (doubt it) you need to manage the external vcs input and change the polarity of that signal to make it go the other direction....

nI the internal mode you are using the pot when either side of center is changing the polarity of the the signal, right side one direction, other side etc.

All of the clamp signals are just inhibits with the one signal "Inh" used to clear the fault lines.

As I said before use the diagram that shows the +-15 vdc speed reference and use a relay or something to change the polarity of this signal into the vcs input. (figure 10.1)

I looked this over close and this is the only way it will work.

You also need to jumper P2 pin 3&4 to disble the front panel controls.

This is a very simple application, if you need a print on how to do this let me know if I have time I will draw one up in autocad for you.

If your limit switches have a N.O. contact use those to pilot up the relay that will change the polarity of the signal just swap the wires from term # 9 & 10 ( +-15vdc) .

I would think FAC/RAC would be tied to your external Stop/Start switch so when you turn the unit on nothing moves until you open the inputs to those terminals.

Just jumper them up to see what they do.

Thx Daveb! Talk to tech support today, they said the same, limit switches only stop the motor, not reversing it. Need an external relay or a frequency square generator hooked up to VCS+ or VCS-, that would revers the motor. I have to give more thougth to this. JUlius

This is pretty simple and cheap, you should be able to make it up for about 30 bucks.

Thanks Daveb, can you send me one?! Even a simple sketch of the hook up would help, for example with a relay that can move it back and forth. I don't even know what a square generate is, never mind installing it. Julius

Wont work,there are a few problems to consider.

  1. You need a Estop (or on off switch) to control the inhibits.

  1. You need one dpdt relay to control direction.

  2. You will need a pot to control the desired speed.

  1. You may need a time (set for like 500ms) so when the limit switch is contacted there is a slight pause before the direction is changed

Test the motor and determine what rpm is desired, if its very high and you have a considerable load the velocity signal may need a ramp function (gradual increase in the vcs) in order for the motor not to. draw to much current on direction change.

The timer will solve this problem.

Find a 5k pot and put in like the drawing shows with the +15 vdc and then to the vcs terminal ( #1 I think) and see how it works.

All that really needs to be done is the following.

Release the Estop (inhibits off fac/rac) direction will be determined by the de-enegized relay .

Motor will rotate until it hits the n/c limit stop the n/o contact of the same limit will turn the timer on , after timeout the relay closes and the motor goes the other way till it hits the other limit timer goes off, relay goes off motor goes the other way. Sumpin like that

You could add all the features you need and be done with it.

However it requires the cable and programming software.

I use a lot of them........good stuff for small projects
