Plain bearing desine

I need to find information on the design of plain bearings, as used on engine crankshafts.

I want look at changing two four cylinder engines in to a V 8 engine.

The con rod bearings on the crank will need to be of a larger diameter and smaller width than the original engine.

I need a text or web sight that will give me information on load capacity, related to, pressure of oil feed, width, diameter etc for the bearings.

I want enough explanation of theory to understand any formulas, but a practical approach to design is what I really need.

I would also like to find information on connecting rods, as a one off set will be very expensive and design round a suitable existing rod could save a lot of trouble and cost.

You can have a look first in "The Internal-Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice" Vol.2, by C.F. Taylor. It has a small chapter on journal bearing. For a complete theory, get any book on tribology, it's usually treated there too.

Hope this helps.
