What kind of plastic is polymer clay?

Hi all,

Can anyone advise me as to the type of plastic that constitutes polymer clay (the stuff that kids use for crafts projects)? Is there an industrial version of this stuff, and is it used in any technical applications?

Thanks in advance,

Larisa

Polymer clay is polyvinyl chloride plastisol. Same stuff that they make traffic cones out of and dip plier handles with, the exception being that much less plasticiser is used to make the liquid so thick you call it modeling clay. Some fillers may be added to increase viscosity. Also, additives to improve handling. Sculpey brand is the most popular in the US. In Europe it is FIMO, which has acrylic copolymer added.
