An excellent discourse on safe firearm handling vs Hollywood firearm handling.

Y'mean it's NOT supposed to take 4,587 shots to slightly wound a lone bad guy? That's the way they do it in the movies.

Fortunately for movie makers, magazines--and even revolver cylinders!--never run out in the magic world of Hollyweird. It's so inconvenient to have to reload, not to mention lugging around all that extra ammo.

The downside, of course, is that the ignorant general public learns virtually all of it's (grossly incorrect) knowledge of firearms from movies and television. And the Left--which controls Hollywierd--has a definite interest in promoting these firearm falsehoods, most of which plays into the agenda of HCI and other "gun grabbers".

Read the papers- that's the way some real police departments do it- throw a lot of lead in the air and hope the bad guys run into it.

You mean the gunfights in the Naked Gun series or the movies aren't true? Oh, my, what is one to do! I always thought that gunfights were always over a trash can. I might also note that the local police dept. had a gunfight on the steps of the main station some years ago. The offender walked into the station, emptied his gun, not hitting anybody, reloaded as he escaped to the car waiting for him (about 100' or so) while the cops banged off several hundred rounds. Nobody got hit and neither was the car hit! Then there's the case of the guy in NYC that got shot while reaching for his wallet. All of the cops in the area emptied their guns and the guy only got a few hits which, unfortunately for him, soon killed him. There were a lot of wild shots there also.

The saloon shootout with Clint Eastwood in "The Unforgiven" is close to accurate from what I read. It was not unusual for opponents to empty their six hooters across a table and no one hit.

Ducking bullets can do wonders for reducing your opponent's marksmanship.

Yeah, ya gotta love those 13 shot Colt 45 revolvers. I count shots in movies now and start chuckling when they don't reload but keep shooting round after round after round.

Maybe they found out how to self-replicate in the chamber. (Thoughts, Doug?)

We used to do that as kids 60 years ago - the film makers were as bad then as they are today. The most I can remember was in the high 30's from one gun.

Hi,

- I never fired a rifle or pistol until I was age 22 a la Navy Seabees in

1974, prior to that I bow hunted. It's all about sighting that sucker in properly. My stint in the Navy required us guys to mandatarily requalify on basic light arms annually. I got to tell you that 1911 .45 Cal Colt was a SOB to hit a target even at close range with both hands holding it. But with that sucker just getting close, as long as you hit the guy, is adequate for effect.

- Seabees told us in Viet Nam most of the soldiers usually missed in a fire fight, all soldiers across the board.

- I eventually learned to minimally (170 to 200 points) qualify to fire expert with a M-16 rifle, on a clear, windless, sunny day on a 200 yard range at Camp Smith's rifle range in Peeksill, NY. Realize nobody was firing back. I CALL THAT THE "ADRENALINE FACTOR," why guys, gals, cops miss their targets under a little duress. SEALS probably got it about right as to fire discipline or your Army or Marines snipers. Also try hitting a target at 200 yards on a cloudy, rainy, windy day. But since my military days I don't do guns, especially around my sometimes hot headed wife. And in NY State just try using a self defense plea in shooting somebody, unless you can afford the $1,000 an hour lawyers and Grand Jury in all situations, except maybe if you are law enforcement.

- What I love about Hollywood is, they just fired 30 rounds out of a weapon, then they hand it to someone by picking it up "bare handed" by the barrel or they put it immediately in their waistband against their skin! Anybody here remember the M-60 machine gun and the asbestos mitten and the change-out barrels? I never saw combat and I ain't sorry, either. - Kurt {:{ =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D re:
