OT: Another Use for Laser Pointer(s)

yet more marginal input from the mentally challenged.

almost every rcm'r has a laser pointer or instrument of some kind, even if it is a chinese cheapie (like mine). originally i bot this to aline optics but now it has found a new function.

guess what? exercising FISH(!). anyone with an aquarium needs to try this (maybe they have), almost as fun as cats. --Loren

My burmese cat doesn't take any notice of my pointer; perhaps he realises that it isn't a real object. He does chase anything else that moves. Another burmese I had would chase a moving reflection from anything, like my watch.

No fish to try it on here. I'm a (novice) rock climber and I thought it would be useful to have a third person on the ground with a pair of binoculars, a laser pointer and a headset two-way radio who could talk with the climber (who would have a hands free two-way radio) and could suggest possible holds or move to the climber. Oddly I've noticed that my fish (koi carp) seem to react in violent panic to a red laser beam, but have no reaction to a white (fairly narrow) beam of light.

We've got two cats. Their reaction to the laser pointer starts out the same:

"I don't know what that is, but ... "

And then diverges wildly. The older (and more cautious) cat continues with:

" ... but I'm not letting it get anywhere near me!".

While the younger (and totally fearless) one continues with:

" ... but I'm gonna *catch* it!"

Needless to say, the older cat does *not* get exercised with the pointer -- no need to make her even *more* skittish.

Enjoy, DoN.
