Story I heard many years ago, can't confirm this. Power cut. A family had a generator running. Some other folks drove up in a car, and got out, holding a VCR. The home owner is a bit suspicious, but they don't seem to want to steal the generator. They walk over, plug in the VCR, push eject, and thank the H.O. quite generously. Turns out the tape was over due, and they had no way to get it out or the machine.
