Engineering book value?

Nov 27, 2005 8 Replies

Need help (what's new i hear you ask), have been given a 1892 1s

edition copy of "The Romance of Engineering, Highways, Subways Railways & Waterways by Henry Frith".

Now i have been offered a fiver (£5) for it but have an inkling it' worth a little bit more than that as it is in excellent almost pristin condition. It looks as though it's been stored away as the colour of th binding and the guilt has suffered no loss of colour or wearing at all Now unfortunately i can't find that many references to it on the web (maybe i'm looking in the wrong places) so can anyone point me in th right direction of say, a good and reputable book valuers/ referenc site as i don't want to get stung by the person who offered me a five for it yet i don't want to price it at a ridiculous amount that i stays gathering dust with me forever. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for that Peter. Thought it might be worth a little mor

than the price offered but wasn't sure. The book itself is i excellent (near mint) condition. It looks as though it's been kep away from strong sunlight as there is no fading to the colours o rubbing to the embossing, will have to make sure i look after i properly to ensure it's fine condition until i decide what to do wit it

Sounds like a best seller ;-)

Seriously, you'd pay £5 for almost any old engineering book in a s/h book shop so £5 seems way below what this is probably worth.

£50+ would be my guessimate.

Joking (again) cross out Henry Firth and replace it with Mills and Boone and you'll never have to work again ;-)

Good luck.

Cheers Mark, will keep an eye on that
