Magnetic chuck

Just bought a magnetic chuck for a small surface grinder, it's i

overall good order but some idiot has at some time lowered the wheel o to it and put a mark about 5 thou deep on the surface. I know nothin about these things but it looks slovenly, would it be OK to grind thi out or would it mess things up ? Davi

Quite alright to grind it. The correct way is to mount a chuck on a surface grinder than take a light facing cut to ensure it parallel to the bed. Again these are trimmed when scratched and dinged.

That is common practice.

Somehow I think to remember that there are 2mm to grind off.

At BMW, where I made a practical training, I once had to do some work on the surface grinder. As the magnetic chuck was quite abused, I asked wether I can grind the chuck. "Yes, it would need it, but the boss doesn't allow it!" 8-/
