Meccano

Sorry if this is slightly OT, but it's almost proper engineering. Does anyone have any old meccano that they would be willing to sell me (in a shameless attempt to interest my children more in engineering). I have some from when I was younger, but haven't been able to locate any second-hand at a reasonable price. There is a lot on E-bay, but it is mostly "mint" or "as new" or "boxed" and obviously for the serious collector and hence expensive. I'm looking for something more "played with" and a bit cheaper -no point in buying "mint" condition stuff and then actually playing with it. If anyone can help please drop me an e-mail, I'm just south of Leicester and with the weight of the stuff it would obviously be better to collect.

Thanks

Kevin

Meccano, is still available, i have just bought my son the biggest set (SET 50), not too badly priced at £50 in my local toy shop, with the kit you can make 50 models from the book or as many as you can imagine. My son is 8 and loves playing with it, we are in the middle of building a sparrows type crane, all good fun

There is still the Meccano specialist shop in Henley-on-Thames. It has been reduced to mail order only recently as the owner is getting on a bit. They do both new and second hand.

Side issue:- I ordered a few motors from greenweld:-

before Christmas for the lad (11yo). They are 9V with a 4mm shaft. I think that I can make them into decent Mecanno motors by making up chassis out of brass sheet to give the appropriate shaft height and fixing centres.

This may keep him going until I can make the promised boiler and three cylinder steam engine :-)
