Sort order in Browser, Wildfire2

Hello all,

since we are on Wilfire 2 (Windows XP) the files/directories in the "File open" window and in the browser are sorted upper case first then lower case, i.e. first A-Z and then a-z. Does anyone else have this behaviour? We find this very annoying...

Windows 2000 does this also in the Pro/E windows.

Traces of the legacy from Unix code. Since PTC uses their own code for all windows, they would have to recode the window display to change it.

hello !

Don't files with .name come first ?

I would find any other way very annoying. That's how real operating systems do it. Can't please everyone :-)

hello hamei,

if we were on UNIX you would be right.

If you are used to UNIX, well ok. But our users work on Windows since Pro/E 20 and up to 2001 the sort order has been "Windows style". So why did PTC decide to go "UNIX style"? BTW, under Windows this sort order is ridiculous anyway, just try to create a file named "part1.prt" and "Part1.prt" in the same directory ;-) And even better, you can have a file named "part1.prt.1" and the next version "PART1.prt.2" without any problems, so this isn't consistent at all. And last: In this case you could please everyone, just have a switch in config.pro e.g. named "SORT_STYLE" which could be UNIX or WINDOWS.

Have a nice day! Peter

I guess they figured they had to do something to appease us Unixxers for going to that terrible ugly Windows-style interface. So we got sorting order while you got the fuzzy warm icons and built-in web browser glorp :)

Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. Let us never accuse the gods and goddesses making decisions at ptc of having small minds. Small elsewhere perhaps, but never small minds !

That would be too sensible ... what I'd LOVE would be a switch "Wildfire interface -> 2001 interface" in config.pro ... damn, that'd be nice. Then everyone could be happy !

Working on it ... in fact, tomorrow is saturday so most likely will, thanks !
