Strong, yes, but not stiff. But, it might work. I've seen some robots made with less stiff materials:

Sure, it might work. I happened to like using aluminum. You can use many wood tools to form it. It's almost as easy to use as plastic but stronger, stiffer and maybe even lighter. Plastics aren't always light; some have quite high densities.
