LDRS 2004

The photos I saw rocked! But fear is the appropriate sensation during flight. The closer you stand, the better you can see it and the less likely you will be impacted.

Paint? I thought you coated that thing with teflon so paint wouldn't stick.

Going to be some interesting flying objects at LDRS 2004!

Ya, I get to try again to a bigger audience ( with any luck there will be "red" animals available then )

Hey, Lloyd, I want to get involved. I've been telling people for years how wonderful upstate NY is, and now I want to help prove it.

Drop me a note at dad-at-pratthobbies-dot-com any time.

I could think of a few more projects that should be included. How about Ed Miller builds an M powered Hershey Hug and 20' M powered Monocopter? Jim German's Tetrahedron drag racing John Ritz's Tetrahedron? a repeat of Phil Pryor and company's Full-Scale Sputnik? This could be the "freak show" of LDRS' ;-)

If you read my article (HPR Nov.99 I think) about my tetrahedron projects, you would know that there were two big tetrahedrons. The small one was powered by 76mm and 98mm L motors and it's big brother was powered by 98mm M motors. The L powered made it's debut at LDRS 1999 in Kansas on a KOSDON EAST skidmark L1000. Then it flew at RATS in 2000 on a KOSDON EAST L1100 fast something. At the NSL 2000 in Geneseo, NY, it flew on an Aerotech L952W. All flites were perfect. Then the infamous flite at Orangeburg, SC, it flew on a defective KOSDON EAST L skidmark, which turned out to be somthing like an "L300" and it arched over and down in the ground. I fixed it and the last flite was at Rhodesdale, Nov.2000, on a KOSDON EAST L900 Green gorilla for a perfect flite but the chute got stuck at apogee and didn't come out and it is now part of some landfill in MD. The M powered tetrahedron flew in Kansas on an M1419W successfully and I will fly it again next year at LDRS in Geneseo, NY, on another M1419W. I will make a bigger shroud for it.

THX, John

Why not both?

Does that mean it's time for the Happy Meal of Death? You shouldn't give me any ideas...

When you make an L or M powered happy meal clone I will feel terrified. Till then I will stand within 5 feet of it at launch if allowed.

Hmmm, 6' diameter, 4' tall foam composite. 38 cu ft. Perhaps 100# empty. This could work.

It's all Jerry's fault!

Now that makes sense. To the uninitiated, one tetrahydron looks like all the rest. ;)

How about having a goal of flying it on EX day next year?

Save your pennies for that M. Haven't figured out what I want to build for LDRS yet ; an odroc or just big. Maybe a 3X upscale fire plug. It would fit right in with some of the other stuff that will be flying.

Mark Sure would be "sweet" to see Ed build a M powered Hug (sorry.....had to say it:-)! And an M Monocopter? Run away!!!! Run away!!!! As long as it only had 2 motors. I heard three pushes the "limit" somewhat:-). And a Sputnik? That would be cool! I'm trying to get my hands on some 16 inch tubing for a 10X Estes Spaceman. Should rock on a 1939 (whether I'll have time to build it is another question:-)! If you redo your FTBOD maybe we can drag race:-):-) :-)? We'll have to think about using "Freak Show" It could be appropriate:-). Talk to you soon.

Limit? There's no limit in monocopters! Think outside the box. :-) But he does need to paint it that muddy maroon color and put a silver Hershey's logo with almonds on it. Maybe even have the parachute pop out the end after some silver foil unfolds.

I agree, paint? If you can't contact paper it, wood stain it or fly it "au natural", it isn't a real oddroc.

Yep, that's the plan. We're trying to make "Nervous Nellies" out of BRS' BFR Committee, BTW. (How's that for acronyms?)

Lloyd, You could paint your Upscale Spaceman to look like Marilyn Manson and then "The Freak Show" would really be an appropriate name for your rocket. Maybe I'll finish that 3' coffin that I started a couple of years ago, too.

Perhaps. Something with less average thrust and longer burn time. Say 15 seconds. An M666?
