The most impressive thing is the extent to which the president is willing to ride roughshod over the concerns of even the libertarian/moderates of own party... either he's deeply sincere in his beliefs about "more and more Security against the terrorism", or he thinks that's where the votes are - at which point, it doesn't matter what he actually _thinks_: do you think anyone makes it to the presidency who remains capable of letting _that_ interfere with optimized vote-seeking behavior?
