Re: "Save Rocketry NOW" My proposal to NAR and TRA

ROFL

I give Frank more credit than that, just a lack of capital to perform it. Hey have a really big-ass Gates Bros launch and invite all the motorguys to service them. Just an idea from the people at Jerry.

Frank,

I like your ideas to get more people exposed and excited about HPR.

I would be glad to donate high quality images of any of the

1000's of rocket pictures I have taken over the past couple years for either web, magazine, or TV promotion.

Contact me if any of my material would be useful to the cause.

Thanks!

So Maness got everybody so "brand aware" that the third prong - bankruptcy court - just caught him "un aware"...

So much for "....Marketing 101...".

Then again Maness always was clueless in Seattle....

Actually he did.

How could he have known TRA and NAR were engineering a market decline as hard and as fast as possible?

Even beyond the magazine, I liked how Bruce just tossed the cash in his own wallet when mugs and other swag with the Tripoli logo on it were bought at LDRS 22. Doesn't Tripoli have rights to the use of the logo and shouldn't that percentage go back to Tripoli instead of in Bruce's pocket?...and don't say he paid it later because it was the same wallet all the money taken at LDRS 22 went in. From magazines to swag to everything sold at that booth. He's still duping Tripoli and nothing is being done.

How long does this have to go on before board members are elected that put a stop to this instead of sticking their heads in the sand and avoiding the issue.

BTW, nice truck our mis-guided funds have bought.

So the million dollar question is, who is resposible for the legal ramifications of money taken for product not delivered and no money to show?

My opinion? Yes. He's provided services, he's working with the folks, as promised. But, any time you pursue legislation, there is no guarantee you'll get what you want. Your opinion may vary, and you're entitled to it.

I think a poll of members and vendors is in order, to see if enough will donate to make it financially feasible.

I don't know the contract; I don't know what was asked in negotiations. But I do know that TRA's contract is with FirstTV, not directly with Discovery. I would imagine that Discovery controls the advertising, so it may not be possible to negotiate such a deal.

This is factually incorrect, Woody.

I responded to your query regarding financial arrangements with John Kyte back on June 16, in the NAR Section listserver. The NAR and TRA have spent approximately $250,000 since the inception of the litigation, and John's fees to date do not come close to this amount.

Can you explain to me what you hope to accomplish by continuing to put out factually incorrect information after I've explained the financial arrangements we have with John?

Thanks Marc for getting us all back on topic. The problem at hand is raising money for commercials to benefit us all. We would need to get a professionally done piece for the commercial. I would think that we could get First TV to do that for a nominal fee as they already have the material. I can make that contact if need be. Next, a website would need to be produced that would be in the ad. I would think that one could be erected with links to NAR, TRA, IEAS, and ARSA, should satisfy everyone to pull together and donate the funds necessary to get this accomplished.(If I left anyone out, lemme know). Then advertise THAT site so that people interested have choices, content, ie, a bone to chew on to tweak their interest. Course, I'm probably living in a dream world here, since it looks like most people like to piss and moan about the past instead of embracing a new opportunity that could very well save our collective rear ends. But getting back to what I'm talking about, if we can unite under Frank's goal and make this happen, we would all benefit, now, so lets save the "whose got the biggest heuvos, my club can beat up your club" contest for later. I would like to donate 250 bucks towards the effort. Frank, do you have a financials administration set up yet? I would think that it should be separate from any org so that no one would feel distrustful. Let me know how I can help. Jerry, you'd be a big help too if you would pull on the same rope I'm tuggin at. The rest of you are a great asset, so lets stop being nerds and debating this thing to death before the window of opportunity is gone, how about it? Is this a worthwhile endeavour or not? Are we doers or spectators watching the traffic pass by? My guess is the former, course, I could be wrong, you tell me.

Pat - being a BOD member, can you find out how much as far as "ads" may already be built into the 3 hours? There might be something about it in the contract with 1st TV. Seems that TRA will at minimum have some mention (along with LDRS), as this all took place at a TRA event. (well, except the filming they did before hand of some of the teams)

While it would be nice to have "non-affiliated" ad, if TRA is mentioned thruout the show, that might help craft additional ads (if needed), as well as a website.

Just a thought

From what I know, the contract was with First TV, a contractor for the Discovery Channel. They took on the project in the hopes of selling it to the DC. They were successful. However, DC is in the business of airing shows that will attract advertisers. We would merely be one of them, hence, no deal was made with with DC to provide us built in spots. We could no more require First TV to insist that DC give us air time than a Contractor building a theater insist that their concrete vendor have ads placed at intermission during shows, espousing the virtues of their slab. As far as the content of the show, I do know that it is very favorable to rocketry in general, as DC would very much hope that the production, aired during sweeps week, could possibly earn an EMMY, which would invite future productions, hence, they want to be invited back.As far as mention of TRA during the show, yes, that will happen, but nothing that a viewer could grasp onto in general. Let me explain it this way. When First TV was at my house filming the construction of Aurora, one scene they wanted was to show the core members after a long day of problem solving discussing over a drink what went right, what went wrong. We were instructed to keep our hands over the labels of our drinks, ie, no unpaid advertising what so ever would be allowed..Kemosabe?

Errortech has been delivering motors on Tuesday after the launch for decades. Its how he gets BOTH the direct sale and the dealer sale. The flyer wants to fly so just before the launch he orders direct, having called the launch dealer to find the motors have not arrived as agreed. The launch dealer who planned MONTHS in advance with errortech's required cash deposit gets his motors alright. Moments after his local market is saturated and after he has lost the sales to all his competitors.

Then he has to pay the final payment COD on tuesday with no sales or immediate prospects of sales.

Welcome to the machine.

I exited that repetitious treadmill. I wonder if he has written software to optimize this practice?

Okay, sign me up.

If Frank, or another, can get it going, I pledge $100 towards a $68K

commercial TV sport rocketry advertising goal.

Jeez, I don't watch TV BECAUSE of commercials and now I'm donating to one.

I just do rockets to relax, I can quit any time I want...
