ROL NEWS--RCS Propellant Chemical Line Expanded

RCS Propellant Chemical Line Expanded October 14, 2003 Web posted at: 2:29 PM EDT

(ROL Newswire ) -- RCS Rocket Motor Components, Inc. has expanded its line of non-hazmat chemicals for EX-rocketry applications. Now available are the burn rate catalysts Chromium Oxide (Cr2O3), Copper Chromite and Catocene.

Chromium Oxide (RCS part no. CRO100G) is a mild burn rate catalyst with a bright green color that improves the ignitability of APCP propellants. Typical concentration level is 0.5 - 2.0% of propellant weight.

Copper Chromite (RCS part no. CUCR100G) is a proprietary blend of copper and chromium oxides, black in color, is a moderate burn rate catalyst and finds use in endburning and medium-to-high burn rate compositions. Typical concentration level is 0.5 - 3.0% of propellant weight.

Catocene (RCS part no. CATO50G) is a dark orange semi-viscous liquid, and is considered to be the best of the iron-based burning rate catalysts. It can be used to formulate propellants with a burning rate of 1" per second or more when used with a suitable oxidizer particle size distribution. Catocene should not be used in excess of 2% concentration by weight (above that amount Catocene can adversely affect propellant impact and friction sensitivity).

These materials can be found on the RCS "Products" page at
