Recently, the Hobby Lobby stores in our area have added a section of metal working supplies. They have small packages of thin aluminum, copper, black aluminum, etc. as well as some very nice soft workable wire as well as different kinds of wire mesh. Some of the sheet stuff is around 12" x 12" and rolled like foil but thicker than foil and very workable. I have been using the 40% off coupons and picking this stuff up at anywhere from $1 to $5 each. It has been very useful for detailing and scratch building. If you have a HL in your area, it is well worth checking out.
