Academy Texan 1/72

I've recently dug the Academy Texan kit out of the stash in the hope of a quick, easy build. Looking at the options in the kit leads me to ask a couple of questions.

First, does anyone know of an aftermarket source of the smoke marker rockets and rails needed for the American Mosquito variant used in the Korean War? They aren't provided in the kit.

Second, if I don't make the Mosquito version, I'd like to make a USAF trainer. Does anyone know of a source of colour and marking information for a T-6G in this role? I have one photograph that appears to show one in overall yellow with black lettering. Are letters and numbers in the USAF style available as decals?

I can't help with the rockets or the decals but ...there are a ton of T-6 photos at airliners.net.

I like the silver version:

Thanks for the link. There are some really marvellous images.

I'd prefer a silver scheme myself and was surprised that the post-war training scheme seemed to be overall yellow.

Thanks for your reply. I've had a look at the book and will be looking at the possibilities that it opens up. Some of the earlier versions would make very attractive models. I already fancy a Yale and I've long thought of making a Wirraway.

Hide quoted text -> > - Show quoted text -High Planes and MPM both do Wirraways and both Azur and Special Hobby do BT-9s. No BT-14s...yet... in 1/72.

I did a Wirraway about 30 years ago by combining parts from an Airfix T-6 and Boomerang. The only thing not quite right was the cowling mounted guns. The poor thing could use a restoration now.

I remember this conversion being described in an article in Modelworld. I wasn't interested at the time but I might dig it out now. Thanks for the reminder.
