1/72nd? K-P makes the nicest as far as I'm concerned. There's even a MiG-15UTI kit.

I'd have to agree. The DML is an easier build, but it is unfortunately not as accurate.

In 1/48 Trumpeter or Tamiya MiG 15s. Eduard makes very comprehensive etch sets for both kits.

1/48 MiG 17s are few and far between. Smer does a MiG 17PF that needs some TLC but can be made into a nice model. Hobycraft's -F model is a little more basic but can also be turned into a silk purse with a lot of work.

I believe the SMER MiG-17 can be found in Airfix boxings as well. I thought the HC MiG-17 was also originally a SMER kit? I'm willing to be proven wrong on this one...

Yes it can. There was even an "improved" version with Aeromaster markings and some resin bits once.

Nope. It's totally different (and greatly inferior). If one were feeling extravagant, one could use the Trumpeter or Tamiya kits for donor parts to spruce it up. I believe that would put one in the running for the Jennings' coveted "insane" award.
