Are the JASDF F-2's able to carry radar guided AAMs? AIM-120, or Sparrow sort of thing?

I'd think so. They have a more advanced radar than the baseline F-16A and early C, and from the get-go were under a specification to carry radar-guided anti-shipping missiles (their equivalent of Harpoon/Exocet). AIM-120 is a plausible load. Sparrow is known to be carried as well. The Japanese are developing the Type 99 (a.k.a. AAM-4) which is somewhat similar in design to the AIM-120 and Sparrow.

Many thanks.

I also understand there is an intention to provide the F2 with AESA radar at some time in the future.
