Origins of Tamiya 1/72 X-35?

Heya folks!

Living here in Uijeongbu City S. Korea, I FINALLY found a couple of hobby shops. Strange but true, it's kinda hard to find kits in the land of Academy and Dragon/DML! So anyway, I had purchased and built a Tamiya X-35 in God's Own Scale of 1/72 and this thing is a DOG! Major parts are warped, things don't fit even with tons of putty and days of sanding to fit, the bright shining spot is that the intake ducts go all the way to the engine! The only problem with the engine is that it can only be assembled in the 'down' position, so no 'in combat' positions hanging from my classroom ceiling.

Remembering that the Italeri kit has the same issue, I was wondering if it is in fact the same kit? Does anyone out there know? I just saw that someone else had released a version with weapons and would MUCH rather have something else after building this thing. It turned out 'okay' but I'm not personally happy with it. I have also built the Academy M-1126 and the ACE Merkava III in the same scale and they turned out BEAUTIFUL! Maybe I'm just destined to be an armor builder...

Anyway, thanks in advance dudes!

Tamiya has a long history of boxing Italeri for the home market and now export. Some of the Italeri is old Esci. Paying new Tamiya prices for 20 to 30 year old Esci/Italeri molds is deceptive to say the least.
