Speaking as an outsider with no axe to grind, I'd say the correct answer is "f: None of the above". If even a tenth of what Mr. Gore said is correct, then your current administration has much to answer for.

Remember what your President Wilson said back on 9 September 1912: "The history of government is a history of resistance. The history of liberty is the history of the limitation of government, not the increase of it." At this point, Mr. Gore is pointing out the current removal of limitations on your government.

Also, remember what your President Jefferson wrote in 20 October 1820: "The boisterous sea of liberty is never without a wave." Trying to calm these waters by insulting the speaker or the messenger will never succeed - you're going to have to point out where Mr. Gore has mis-spoken, and provide proof, in order to discredit his views. (And even that probably won't shut him up; as your President Lincoln wrote on

19 November 1858, "The cause of civil liberty must not be surrendered at the end of one, or even one hundred defeats," and Mr. Gore appears to believe that this is a case of defending civil liberty.)

Just kill the subject if you really don't want to open it. I'm hoping for some cheap theatre here, but so far, except for the Mien Kampf bit, it's way too reasonable.

Er, uh, have you ever built one of those? I sense a certain disporportionality of effort for yield here.

Hi Rob:

Excellent points made. And well worth taking a few moments to express your thoughts. You do have an audience here.

I believe if we can win over some model airplane conservatives to the dangers the republic is facing, then we can win over anybody. Model builders must understand that if they are not the solution, they are the problem .....

Interesting reactions from some. All I said was "read the speech." Pretty harmless, no? Amazing how that simple request can generate such heated and personal attacks.

Mr. Gore comes from a long line of distinguished public servants. These are folks who have served their country long and well. If you can't stand to read Mr. Gore's words that the Republic as we know it is threatened internally, then I fear about who it is you are reading.

P.S. In case you missed it, the speech is here .....

Interesting that the statements you chose to quote were made when each of the three presidents quoted were not, in fact, president. Wilson was not elected until November 1912 and not inaugrated until 1913. Once he became president he had no qualms about cracking down on dissidents and "enemy aliens" - ethnic Germans. Jefferson was president from 1800-1813 and frequently ignored his own "strict constuction" policy toward the constitution when it suited his own interests. Once Lincoln was elected president in 1860 he himself found it necessary to crack down on dissenters and political opponents, to unclude bypassing parts of the Bill of Rights (habeus corpus in particular. I guess things look differnt when you are on the inside dealing with the real world...

I was trying to give him a chance to repent and see the error of his ways, Ron, but it was hopeless

The little turd has now sent me some more crap via personal e-mails and I had to block him from that as well. He ain't all that quick on the uptake but he's persistent as a case of genital herpes. :~)

I tried to apologize to Woodier for accidently sending him direct e-mail. I must have clicked the wrong icon. Was trying to send something to the group.

But I cannot apologize, cause he thinks I did it on purpose. He has blocked me and since I cannot reach him otherwise, this will have to do.

Since Mtr. Woodier has blocked e-mail from me, it is my hope one of you will forward this apology to him for me. I am guilty of perhaps clicking the wrong "reply" button. Either that or Outlook Express is playing tricks on me. I honestly do not know which.

You might also add that I have saved his e-mail responses to me. They can be published here if my apology is not accepted in good grace.
