Yes , but the defence forces are so depleted of personell and stretched to the limit .Those that are left serving are carrying the cudgel .Our SAS forces in Afgahnistan are plumb wore out and desperately need a break. Conscription and compolsory national service has been a talking point of late. They are also talking of putting women in the front line and letting people who would not normally make the grade join up. Our Prime Minister has said there will be no conscription ,but just looking back at his past record of "there will be no, the Govt has no plans, we are not considering that option " he is telling lies .

Access to handguns by the lawful has been restricted for so long ,I agree . Criminals have always had access to them and will continue to, even if all firearms are removed from private ownership. There is a demand here for black market supply of firearms ,being re-enforced by the Government's action of removing firearms from private ownership. Just like drugs ,make it illegal and more want to indulge. It's much easier to obtain an unregistered handgun ,than to travel down the lawful road, less red tape,messy restrictions and registration. Black market hand guns are readily available and easy to obtain ,you just need a fistful of folding green stuff.

Criminals are out side the law and don't register their firearms with the authorities.

Maybe if private owner ship and carrying of concealed weapons was lawful here we would have less home invasions and muggings . Maybe some person who was carrying a concealed firearm at Port Arthur may have been able to intervene and disable who ever perpetrated that massacre.

BTW way the person who is serving time for Port Arthur I don't believe was the person who is responsible for the deaths of 32 people that day. But that's another story.
