2d mechanical linkage simulation

Mar 08, 2007 2 Replies

Are their any other tutorials on Solidworks "SketchBlocks" beside the

2 tutorials that are in Solidworks?

I would like to model 2d mechanical linkages, however the tutorials in solidworks are not very helpful.

I am using a friend's 2006 version.

I did the 4 bar linkage tutorial and that worked out ok, and I then I tried simple "stick figure" 4 bar linkage of my own design and that worked out ok, but when I made my own blocks and added relations the resulting linkage would not move.

Are there any books that are available on this subject alone?

Is there any online info to help beginners on this subject?

If I could get this 2d mechanical linkage modeling to work it would be most awesome :-)

Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Go to

formatting link
and grab the one Bruce Holway did called Using Blocks for Mechanism Design. There are some good ideas in there.

Wayne,

Thank you for the link, perhaps with some more studying of the tutorials in Solidworks and that PowerPoint presentation I can eventually make it work.

I have been searching a lot for more info and my guess is that because its so new maybe there are not many people using this yet.

This feature would be an immense time saver for experimenting with different designs before committing the to the time for a 3d model.
