Dual monitors

Having just placed an order for new PC's to update out SolidWorks hardware I note that the new graphics cards are 'dual monitor' devices. What are the benefits of using two monitors?

I am running dual 20" monitors off the nVidia Quatro4 980 XGL video card. Dual monitors are great if you are working with assemblies. nVidea includes a nice program that can control how programs are displayed on the two display's. A program can be displayed on one monitor or spanned accross both. It's also nice to have an Excel sheet (design tables) open on one display and a SW part on the other. I would feel like I'm working in a dog house if I had to back to one display.

Never mind, I think I understand your post better now. I had never used "Spanvue" so it took a minute to sink in what you were saying. Thanks.

just to contradict myself ! - if you look on the NVIDIA open gl settings tab you will find 'multidisplay hardware acceleration' options-this is greyed out on mine since I use span mode, so I never noticed it before- according to the PDF users guide this option is available except for NT cheers

Ummm . . . so you're running NT? Otherwise the option should be available?

no I run XP with graphics in span mode so that option is greyed out automatically-my monitors are identical 19". The multi display accel options are accessible for dual view only but according to the blurb not for NT -that is if you have 2000 or XP you should have this option available and if you have different monitor sizes, resolutions you can still have open gl acc in performance/compatibility modes I suggest you visit the nvidia site and download the PDF Detonator users guide to get a handle on things and also see- for this bit specifically - additional features and enhancements/open gl settings/other opengl options/multi display hardware options. hope this helps if it doesn't get back to me and explain what you are trying to do and ill see if I can help you in the right direction cheers

Thanks. Well, I'm not trying to do anything yet, except trying to figure out what I might be ABLE to do once I get a new system, which I plan to do fairly soon.
