Has anyone out there tried to eliminate the bubble numbers from the drawing and BOM and just use part numbers. For example instead of 1, 2,
3, etc. for items numbers (bubble). Name the part the same as the Part Number, and then attach a note that displays the filename of each component on the drawing. In my opinion the item number or reference designator is just another lookup cross reference that you have to do.What type of success or troubles do you run into?
The only real challenge I have run into is attaching the above note to sub-assemblies but that can be done easily if you grab the origin of the assembly.
Would love to hear some stories.
