Question

Please could you help a novice SW user (me) with the following :

How do i transpose a hole(s) position from one item to another.

ie. I have a sheet steel panel with no holes in it. I have inserted it into an assembly drawing, and i want to `pick up' the tapped hole positions which are in the mating parts of the assembly. These tapped hole positions are underneath the sheet steel panel. I need to transpose these positions to enable me to put the clearance holes into my sheet steel panel.

I hope that makes sense !

I have tried inserting a simple hole but i don't seem to be able to add a concentric relation to the tapped hole in the mating part. SW tells me `please select from two different sub-assemblies'

Select the mating part in the assembly mode. RMB > Edit Part. select the appropriate surface Hit the hole wizard button. Select your desired hole size. hit next. SW adds a single point you can add one more for each hole you want. Now turn off the point tool and constrain the points to each of the mating holes. hit finish and you will have holes that are associated with the hole pattern of another part.

Keep in mind that the holes will then be in-context of the other part - if the holes move in the bottom part, they will also move in the panel part. If you want to keep that relationship, so be it. If not, as in you just want to locate them the first time, then you need to break those relations and dimension the points in the new part.

As Corey said but, if you hover the cursor around the edge of the primary hole it will show you the center, put the point on the center and you will automatically get a coincident mate. No need for a manual mate..Mike Eckstein
