Mates not dynamically updating

Mar 14, 2008 3 Replies

I have an assembly in which I've just replaced 2 sub-assemblies (of the same component) with 2 new sub-assemblies based on new component files.

Basically the 2 original instances were of the same sub-assy component but using different configs, and instead I've now created 2 new sub-assemblies to represent the 2 arrangements. So in theory, all the mates should map directly during the "replace" operation, and SWX did in fact give a green tick for each of the mates mapped.

However.....now the top level assembly does not update properly. If I drag a component that has one remaining degree of freedom it moves as expected, but none of the other components mated to it move with it. If I force an update, they snap back into place.

Is there some setting that says "don't update dynamically after replacing a component"???

SWX2007sp5.1

There is an old trick that might help. Backup first. Then delete the entire feature tree and immediately do a restore. This used to completely rebuild the feature tree. It might still work. Backup first.

Also try a save as.

Thanks...but I'm not sure I understand what you mean....?

"backup first"......ok "delete the feature tree"......presume you mean delete all items on it. "do a restore"......do you mean do an undelete?

Much of the math/building of the assemblies are being saved into the file (shadow) so you will see that when you make a "save as" the file becomes smaller ~half size, this solves many problems with assemblies overall, so that is always a good idea to do that if an assembly behaves funny (reversing mates, looses mates etc).
