SW2004 mates (double)

In working with 2004, I have found what appears to be a quicker way to deal with the now always on "defer mates." Once you have the 2 faces, etc selected for the mate, click the check mark on the floater box, and then reach over with the left hand (assuming RH mouse operation) and hit the key. Most of the time SW has the sense to interpret the keystroke after it accepts the ok from the mouse click. If you have several mates to put in, select the items, click on the check mark floater, and after the last one, hit the key. This is faster as you don't have to wait for the first acceptance to complete and then click again.

Thanks for the Tip!

However, for those of you who really feel that the 2004 mating process is still slower, I can't stress this other tip enough. Assign mates to hot keys and I can't tell you how much time you will save.

For example, the mates I use the most are coincident, concentric, and distance. So, I assign F1, F2, and F3 these mates respectively. Then if I want two selected faces to be coincident, I just hit F1 and then the mate is assigned instantly. Once you learn to use these hot keys, I gaurantee you will never want to use that mating dialog box.

Otherwise use the alt key....pick a face... press alt key..drag it to another face and if it's a valid refence mate it will click in.

I really like this except I can't figure out how to rotate my assembly view in cases where the other face is not accessible.

It's like I need to rotate and drag at the same time.

Have you a solution for this (besides hitting "Move" and selecting "Smartmates")?

Thanks! Mike Wilson

You can still rotate with a middle-drag, but you need a contortionist's mouse hand. It loooks like the arrow keys still work too.

Oooh that might do the trick. Didn't think of that.

Thanks Dale! Mike

Sorry ..guess I'm maybe a bit spoiled, but I use the space mouse for that, at least on the desktop machine
