sw2004 sp5 installation problem

Dec 24, 2004 6 Replies

when trying to apply the sw2004sp5.0 service pack, the installer acts like it can't see the msi file on the cd, even though it is in the preview window. I found a command line method in a bulletin that was relevant to sp2.1 or whatever, but this method didn't work either. Other service packs thru 4.1 worked on this same cd set, and they autoexecute properly when first put into the drive. antivirus was diabled. Any ideas how to get the installer to work? thanks bill WinXPsp2

Um ... a bad CD? Just a thought ... any visable damage? Can you try someone else's to see if it works? Check the files on it?

the cd seems OK, as it will autoexecute and start into the install routine. When it looks for the msi file, the file name does show up in the browser window.

Bill,

See prior topic SW2004 SP5.0 for a discussion on Windows Installer and this service pack.

Gary

the consensus seemed like I will have to uninstall swx and reinstall back to sp0 and then do the sp5.0 bill

Yeah, and possibly use the Microsoft 'Windows Install Cleanup' tool in order to be able to install 0.0.
