The esquimalt and naimio railway is back in local hands once again after 100 plus years. (Vancouver Island)
It was taken over by a group of local people and is owned by the island cooorridor foundation and they have hired an contract railway company to operate it under very close supervison.
CPR and Rail America where both given tax certificate by ICF and CPR tranfered all the land, track, equipment to ICF.
Since January 1 2006 the E & N railway has been under new ownership and there is a plan to repair and restore all the heritage building shops round house etc along the routes as well they are still operating the Via Rail Canada passanger service each day..They have the most RDC in canada for parts and operational.
From victoria bc to courtney bc each day...
