Kadee #307 Electromagnetic decoupler current requirements...

Does anyone happen to know how much current these things draw? I need to know if the existing output transistors on a Chubb DOUT32 board can handle it (2N4401's, which handle about 300ma) or if I need to build a driver circuit. Nowhere on Kadee's site does it specify how much current these units draw.

I wouldn't count on it. Probbably better to use a power supply that can provide

50 Watts. I would use a 2N3055 as the switch from a suitable power source and use the Chubb circuit to turn on the 2N 3055. For that matter you can do it manually with a SPST momentary switch if you don't need to computer operate it. A 12V 50W or 60VA transformer can be had cheaply at most places that sell electronics hobbyist junk. You can route the Xformer output to a pre-packaged full wave bridge rectifier, hang a 3500 microfarad electrolytic capacitor across the output legs of the bridge and you're good to go with no question of reliability. The whole thing should fit in the palm of your hand.

I sort of figured that the uncoupler needed more power than the Chubb could handle, but was not sure. I've already designed a driver circuit.
