Stewart vs Intermountain Engines

May 22, 2006 1 Replies

I'm planning to buy some F7 units for my layout and have looked over the Stewart and the Intermountain engines. Does anyone have experience with both brands and if so could you tell me how much difference in performance there may be between brands?

Thanks in advance

The performance is pretty much equal. The difference is in the shell with the IM model being more accurate and more detailed. You can go another step better and get the Athearn Genesis F unit with the Highliners shell. No matter what you get you can spend considerable time adding and modifying details and weathering so the model assumes the appearance of the prototype. The different brands run slightly different as far as starting speed with DC, however I find the overall operations about the same with all of them.
