Use for Acoustical Ceiling Tile?

hi

There's an office building near me being renovated and there's a huge pile of acoustical ceiling tiles in a dumpster. I'm pretty sure they're asbestos free! I recall an old issue of MR that showed how to use them to simulate rocks, but are there any other uses? Perhaps laying them over plywood benchwork makes for a less noisy layout? Any potential uses anyone knows of would be greatly appreciated.

Other than layered rock I can only think they would be good for stacking up as a base for a mountain. Dusty from what I hear. As for roadbed, I would not use them.

They are too soft to hold spikes. Break them up into chunks and use them as rock outcroppings.

They are OK as subroadbed: wood base + ceiling tile + cork + track works very well. If you lay your track, you can glue basswood or pine ties to it, and they hold the spikes OK.
