I was once a happy HO modeler. I had a neat little 4 x 8 layout, the Arkansas Southern, designed by Jim Kelly for the book "The Practical Guide To HO Railroads". I had to take that layout down when we decided to remodel the basement. So as not to be without trains I purchased an N Scale Kato F-7 train set in SOO Line colors. It included 3 cars and an oval of Unitrack. I ran that oval for 6 months marveling at the tiny train as it wound around the bends. I even built the Atlas Switch Tower and it is a jewel.
When the basement was finished, I ended up with a 10 x 12 room designed just for trains. I immediately put up my 4 x 8 Arkansas Southern and added two more sidings. Now I have all kinds of switching to do with those Atlas Alcos.
But I wondered about those N Scale trains so I put up a 3 x 6 table for N Scale. Since then I have added another Kato F-7, an Atlas GP-7, 2 Soo cabooses and a whole bunch of Atlas SOO Line cars. Also a Kato switch, another oval and a new MRC controller.
But the HO layout is so pleasurable to run, but the N Scale trains can be much longer, but the HO trains run much smoother, but the N Scale trains.... HELP!
