Fred Dibnah's stuff

Morbid question perhaps, but does anyone know what is happening to all Fred's engineering stuff? One might hope it was being kept together as the basis of a national collection - but, hey, this is the modern world, I know.

regards,

Kim Siddorn.

If the council has anything to do with it, it'll probably be bulldozed into his mine shaft and back filled. If - and I hesitate here as it is only hearsay - his widow has anything to do with it, it'll go to the highest bidder.

Comment in a vintage magazine recently said that "if the Trust would allow the two sons were going to take the engines to a rally locally to Bolton"

...and why not? Apart from a very few specific items, Celia has instructions to sell all my junk when I fall off my perch. I won't be able to play with it and she'll make good use of the money :-) regards Roland

I hope you've also drawn up at least a rough list of what you have and how much it is "worth". Preferably with pictures so she knows the difference between the Lister A with orginal furgel wangler and Lister A with non orginal furgel wangler but exceptionaly rare reverse drive sprocket purger.

Indeed why not draw up the eBay listsings in turbo lister now?

Roly,

Dave has an excellent suggestion there. One of my mates collects high-end flintlock rifles ($250,000+ range). He has told his wife that when he pops his clogs she's to go into the vault and check the patchbox of each rifle. There is a note in each with one or more names, phone numbers, and prices. The named individuals will be delighted to pay that price in an instant for the rifle. You should set Celia up with the same sort of info. She'd definitely appreciate not having to sort out non-orginal furgel wanglers and reverse drive sprocket purgers at the same time that she's interviewing new men.

See ya, Arnie

The collection of old scrap Fred assembled into the Dibnah Engineering Works ought to become a museum. I only met Fred once at Pickering but it would be fair to say he was born a

100 years too late. I think even he thought he'd have done rather well in the Victorian era.

That tractor of his could have been listed as the cause of a divorce but what a wonderful job was made of the restoration. The damn thing runs like a sewing machine. Fred noted that apart from the boiler certificate there is no equivalent of a MOT on the working parts of a steam road locomotive.
