I've been unable to find an hour or so to turn the workshop lights on for ages - well over a fortnight, but having found a few hours, I thought I'd get me hands dirty today, just as a special treat, like.
The 6kva B&S genny that Paul Evans gave us for the Saxon Hall project didn't go when I got it, but it was easily fixed as the plastic/fibre pin that operates the points had seized in its tunnel as they tend to do, so I rooted that problem out quite easily. The job today was to manufacture an exhaust system for it as in the banked enclosure of the Burgh, generators can be oppressive, especially as this one had a bad attack of the tin worm in the B&S rudimentary silencer.
I'd been collecting bits of old car exhausts from my tame mechanic for a week or two and by cutting, brazing and bending, I've made it an interesting double boxed exhaust system that shuts the note up to the extent that you can hear the mechanical clatter from the revvy SV unit. It exits downwards and I'm going to run it into a hole in the ground to add to the baffling effect. I'll try it over Easter, but I've made it so it comes off readily and if it still barks under load, I can change/add to it readily enough.
