Hi Guys, I visited Urmston Rally today & made the mistake of going into the model tent. The model club had a members engines on sale & I succumbed to a Twin Cylinder Sterling Engine. This is well made & electrically heated. I haven't tried to run it yet & I will check out the electrics first. Does anyone know if this a published design or is it a one off? See Pictures at
More damage to my wallet!
That's an interesting thing Dave and I feel sorry for your wallet, it must have sustained some pretty serious damage!
I would guess that it is a one-off freelance job, well known stirling engine modeller Roy Key used a similar layout for his 'Conceptual hot-air powered winding engine' illustrated in The Stirling Engine Manual Vol. 2, but with the displacer cyls the other way up and heated with conventional burners.
The method of attaching the con rods to the big end is odd, I can't quite see how it deals with the varying angle between the rods? Cooling looks a bit limited, I guess it relies on convection of air through the holes in the block?
