Re: Away

We are working tomorrow, going up to Birkenhead on Sunday to do a safety check on the 750V DC system in the workshop. Taking Mark Drake his Bamford up with us, and Arthur's coilwinder which has been waiting for a lift for a while now..

End of the month coming up so headless chicken syndrome for a few days...

Picked up a nice few items today, not engine related but will be used for engine related things :-))

Clarkson dedlock No 150 Int40 toolholder which was stuck with a milling cutter on it, got that off OK and it cleaned up very nicely, also got three near new resharpened cutters, still in plastic, to go on a tool arbor which I already have. The best bit was that they were all free! It doesn't get any better than that.

Been buying lots of tooling for the second milling machine, just need a bigger workshop now.

Another Ward Capstan is also coming home, a Ward 1A which will supplement the existing one which is being restored.

We have a roof to replace this summer/autumn, together with wall and gable construction etc etc. Been thinking of doing it ourselves but need to learn a bit more about brickwork, my rudimentary skills need augmenting somewhat.

Been quoted £150 a day cash for a (brickie) and £80 a day for a labourer/mixer. I reckon the three of us still at home could do most of that ourselves and save half the money in the job.

I found my problem when I unlocked the door at the end of the building and it swung open, I then noticed that the end wall was parting company from the main building structure and is taking the door frame with it. On closer inspection I found that with only a finger I can scrape the mix from inbetween the bricks. It looks like 98% sand 2% cement so I checked the walls and found the rear garden wall is even worse and with little grandchildren next door I dont want it coming down on them. I'm am not a bricky and would rather pay to have it done properly.
